This is a broad monograph devoted to Daido Moriyama, one of the pre-eminent names in contemporary Japanese photography along with Nobuyoshi Araki, Yasumasa Morimura, and Shomei Tomatsu. Moriyama's photography is provocative, both for the form it takes (dirty, blurry, overexposed, or scratched) and for its content. The viewers experience of the photograph - whether it captures a place, a person, a situation, or an atmosphere - is the central thrust in his work, which vividly and directly conveys the artist's emotions. His perspective and cultural background reveal aspects of Japan heretofore unknown.

Moriyama is a photographer on the road, a lone traveler whose black & white images recount visions and worlds hidden just beneath the surface of reality. This volume, The World through My Eyes, contains 250 photographs from the 1960s to the present. A constant flow of images that is often frenetic or suddenly suspended, following the rhythm of an unfettered, restless life spent traveling the roads of the world.
