Video is at the heart of Von Sturmer’s current practice. His works in this medium are quiet, patient – and mesmerising. Using tabletop and domestic materials (a balloon, a polystyrene cup, a piece of BluTak) and occasional digital trickery (sequences run backwards here and there, cameras are tipped or turned so that objects appear to float up and adhere to ceilings), Von Sturmer crafts small loops of time that enthral and enlighten.
